VSSC Press Release

VSSC partners with WRENCH SOLUTIONS on latest GSLV launch vehicle product development management.

Thiruvanthapuram- Aug 10: The Vikram Sarabhai Space Center today announced the launch of its new product lifecycle management software (PLM) infrastructure. In a bid to streamline design, development and manufacturing process for its next launch vehicle, VSSC joined hands with indigenous software product company WRENCH SOLUTIONS to provide an end-to-end PLM solution.

The Vikram Sarabhai Space Center (VSSC) in Tiruvananthapuram is involved in launch vehicle development. From humble beginnings, starting with the early days of sounding rockets, its most recent success story is the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) which placed the indigenous 1000 KG class Indian Remote Sensing satellite IRS-P2 in orbit on October 15, 1994. PSLV's successor is the GSLV (G for Geo-synchronous). The latest in the series will be capable of launching 4500 KG class communication satellites in geosynchronous orbit. It is in relation to this Rs. 2500 crore initiative as well as for future projects that WRENCH and VSSC have come together.

WRENCH SOLUTIONS is a 7-year old company that specializes in collaborative software products for the engineering and manufacturing sector. Its mission is to 'enable truly collaborative engineering', and to that end, focuses on bringing IT to bear on the largely-traditional world of engineering design and project management. WRENCH SOLUTIONS claims to have indepth domain expertise in various sub-verticals, and boasts of an impressive client list, including Widia, L&T, BEL, BHEL, MICO Bosch, Bajaj Auto, TVS etc. A completely indigenous company, WRENCH today is headquartered out of Bangalore, India, and has sales offices in various Indian metros.

As the Project Director in charge of the program explained, "ISRO in general, and the launch vehicle community in particular had been widely practicing the collaborative engineering concepts over the years in their multi-disciplinary development efforts, with the current state of advancement in computer networks and IT enabled facilities, it was thought appropriate to adopt and implement a cost-effective PLM software on an ambitiously tight schedule."

With respect to the benefits that WRENCH could be expected to bring to the project, he commented, "The successful implementation of this program is expected to greatly facilitate the task of detailed engineering of various vehicle subsystems by different specialist agencies in a truly concurrent mode, and will also help the Project to handle configuration control and change protocol more effectively with less paperwork and time spent in meetings. This should definitely cut down overall project timelines and costs."

In his inaugural address, the Chairman of ISRO mentioned that it had always been 'a dream' to put in place a world-class project management system and a centralized information repository, and that 'now this dream has come true."

Obviously, one of VSSC's major concerns with this initiative was security - that and the primary need for absolute system reliability. Mr. Varghese Daniel, Director, WRENCH SOLUTIONS asserted, "We have built WRENCH to deliver a 'minimal-failure' software environment. WRENCH not only minimizes human error, thanks to the fact that it automates multiple project processes, but we have focused on making it 100% robust. Right from the start, we realized that are no second chances when it comes to supporting a team that is building a product that impacts the entire nation."

India's leading missile development lab turns to local company WRENCH for IT infrastructure

In a bid to automate processes and streamline workflows, DRDO's Research Center Imarat (RCI ), recently signed up with WRENCH Solutions, the Bangalore-based 10-year old IT product company . The Rs. 30 lakhs deal initiates Phase 1 of the implementation and concludes RCI's 6-year search for an end-to-end, integrated system.

"We anticipate huge time savings in areas like project and document management, deliverables monitoring, vendor and process management etc.....our department heads can look forward to less firefighting and paper pushing and more research." says the RCI spokesperson.

WRENCH beat leading international competitors to bag this order. "All other solutions in the market are backed by large MNC brands, but they are mainly generic project lifecycle management (PLM) solutions. WRENCH offered all the benefits of standard PLM plus extensive domain expertise - which showed in the product's feature-set and process templates and its configurable architecture." added RCI.

RCI is very positive about its choice to 'buy indian': "As far as we know, WRENCH is the only product of its kind in the market today and we are pleased that it was built entirely out of India. Although low-profile, WRENCH has an impressive track record, and this also factored in our decision."

Mr. Varghese Daniel, Founder and CEO of WRENCH Solutions commented: "RCI is an ISO 9001-2000 organisation, information-heavy and process-driven. Each project is executed by multiple specialised technology divisions who work independently but rely on common repositories of information. RCI needed something that would not only integrate each division's processes into a centralised system, but also allow enough flexibility for each division to function independently. WRENCH is the only product that fits the bill."

He added: "The typical IT solution would not work without either changing long-standing working culture or rewriting large sections of the software, or buying multiple IT solutions and then integrating them across the enterprise - all of which are expensive options. Our previous experience with ISRO and DRDO plus our competitive pricing promised a tailor-made solution in the shortest possible time."

Apart from ISRO and VSSC, WRENCH's clients include Bajaj, BHEL, MICO, Tata, TVS, Kennametal Widia, VATech, BEML, L&T, Sanmar Engg.,etc.

Mr. Varghese Daniel, elaborates on what makes his company's offerings unique. "WRENCH offers document, process, and knowledge management in a single package. Our products are comprehensive in functionality, but niche in terms of markets. Also, we don't offer 'enhancements' - we solve actual industry problems. For example, ISO-compliant processes require human beings to make the effort to actually follow the process - consistently and repeatedly. In WRENCH, ISO-compliant processes are in-built and invisible - the default mode of working. WRENCH enforces this standardization across all routine, time-consuming tasks - sending an email, updating a schedule, compiling a report etc. For a client like RCI, this ensures 100% data quality and security."

Mr. Daniel said that WRENCH will begin implementation shortly across all RCI Technology directorates and workcenters, both inside the RCI campus as well as external affiliated agencies.

WRENCH Solutions selects Kochi as the city for its R&D lab and product development center

Kochi, August 17, 2005: WRENCH Solutions, the 10-year old Bangalore-based software product company today announced the launch of its first Research & Development and product development center. The Center is located in the Cochin Special Economic Zone. A WRENCH spokesperson said that the center would have 40 employees by December 2005, and this figure is expected to double in 12 months.

“WRENCH is our flagship product that enables medium-to-large engineering-based companies to function more efficiently. This pioneering IT product automates and manages all information and processes. Simply put, any company that has an engineering department needs WRENCH - it offers enterprise-wide process automation, document management, and schedule monitoring. WRENCH offers in one single integrated system the equivalent of four-to-five standard IT packages - including PLM, document management, project/schedule management, etc.”.

“WRENCH has 60% market share in India , with clients like Bajaj, BHEL, TATA, L&T, VSSC etc. Now that we have established ourselves here, we are planning to enter the overseas market, starting with the Gulf and Southeast Asia. The engineering and construction industry in these markets is one of the most advanced in the world, with global brands doing business in places like Kuwait, Abu Dhabi and Dubai. We plan to take our products to these markets in the final quarter of this year. Our new R&D center is aimed at scaling up the product and strengthening our technology.” said Mr. Varghese Daniel, Founder and CEO of WRENCH Solutions Pvt. Ltd.

“We chose Kochi as our location for this center because of its untapped engineering potential. There are numerous engineering colleges and institutions throughout Kerala, especially in and around Kochi. We are not a typical software company - our primary differentiator is domain expertise which helps us anticipate the specific needs of our customers. Thus, we need committed, creative young people to take us forward. After extensive research and working with local institutions, we believe that we can find this kind of talent here in Kochi.” explains Mr. Aju Peter, Technical Director, WRENCH Solutions Pvt.. Ltd.

“We foresee steady growth in the next few years. A high-end research center is essential to keeping the WRENCH brand in the lead. It is a niche product in a specialised domain, which means that our technology must always be ahead of our customers’ needs.” added Mr. Manesh Alias, who is responsible for global delivery and quality control.

Last year, WRENCH signed up with Kochi-based VSSC, a division of the Indian Space Research Organisation to manage the complete information and process needs relating to the next launch vehicle GSLV Mach 3. “We are honored to be associated with VSSC”, said Mr. Daniel. “We look forward a long and fruitful relationship with them”.

Hon. Minister Shri Dominic Presentation who officiated at the inauguration ceremony held earlier today commented that he was happy to ‘welcome back’ an entrepreneur who would bring many opportunities for the young professionals of this region. “I wish WRENCH SOLUTIONS all the best in their business”. he said.
